Amisfield - Unique Website
https://amisfield.co.nz/
Amisfield is a winery/restaurant based in Frankton, Queenstown. It is a world renowned restaurant known for its curated wine selection and award winning degustation menu's.
I have chosen this website for it's unique design, in almost a picture book theme.
The main page of Amisfield is rather plain, with only an image to the left and the navigation tabs to the right, however it's elegantly designed to not feel too minimal, with the image taking up enough space and the font of the writing being simple but bold. The image on the left periodically changes via a slideshow which is a nice touch, showcasing the restaurant and the winery:
The part that I feel makes this website unique is how they've style each page that you can navigate to.
Instead of a scrolling style website, where you would navigate down the page, this website lends itself to a design that is across two sides of the screen - one for a picture reference, and the other is where you scroll down learning about what you've just navigated to.
I think this is a really cool design in how they managed to only have one side of the screen be for scrolling, and the other stays static. This can be seen in the "Our Story" page for reference:
I also really like their "Shop" page, where you can peruse their selection of white and red wines, or as they refer to it, light and dark.
I think this page is unique as there are different color schemes for either selection, with red being against a black backdrop, and the whites being against a white backdrop:
One thing I also like about their home page, is that it has a clear link to their social media page on Instagram. I think with so many people using social media as reference as to whether something is worth visiting/purchasing, it's important to consider this in your design choices instead of having it as an afterthought:
Something that I would include in my own websites would be perhaps the actual layout of this site.
I really like how they've style the pages to be non-conventional and unique, and I think it actually makes it easier to read through each page and it is similar to reading a book, brochure, or magazine.
Another thing that is quite cool is that in the "Our Story" page, there are options to learn about each of the key team members. It is styled to fit the theme of the website, but as you hover over each name there comes up a small image of that particular person. Maybe nothing super significant, but a nice way to save space and do something a little unique.
